The Administrative Review Tribunal (ART) has increased its fees, and new rules about how some visa reviews are decided are already in place.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This update is very important for visa applicants, especially international students, workers, and families who may need to challenge a Department of Home Affairs decision.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>1. ART Fees Have Increased From Today<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Starting today, <\/span><b>all ART application fees are higher<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. These increases happen every year because fees are adjusted based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI).<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>New Fees From 1 July 2026<\/b><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Standard application fee: $1,195<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Review of a migration decision: $3,727<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Review of a protection visa decision: $2,293<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Small business taxation review: $641<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tax disputes under $5,000: $119<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Guidance and Appeals Panel review: $1,195<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>concessional fee of $100<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> remains the same.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>Fee Reduction for Financial Hardship<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you are applying for a migration review and you are experiencing financial difficulties, you may still be able to request a <\/span><b>50% fee reduction<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>NDIS Review Fees Now Apply<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From today, people who want the ART to review a decision made by the <\/span><b>NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commissioner<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> must also pay the standard fee.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>2. New Rules for How Some Visa Reviews Are Decided<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another change began earlier this year, on <\/span><b>18 May 2026<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The ART now has more power to decide some cases <\/span><b>without holding a hearing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This is called deciding a matter \u201con the papers.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What This Means<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your case is decided on the papers:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You will <\/span><b>not<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> attend a hearing<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You will <\/span><b>not<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> speak directly to a Tribunal member<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The decision will be based only on written documents<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><b>Temporary Visas May Soon Be Affected<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Migration Act now allows certain temporary visa reviews to be decided only on the papers. No temporary visa types have been listed yet, but the government can add them at any time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Permanent and protection visa reviews are <\/span><b>not<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> affected.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>3. How You Can Prepare<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>A. Start Early<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you think you will need a review, begin preparing your documents now.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>B.
